It is with pleasure that SMC Student Council announces the appointment of Lori Buchart as President of the SMC Student Council. Lori succeeds Julie Beardsell, who is stepping down from the presidency having served on the SMC Student Council since the beginning as founding member in 2006.
Lori is studying for the Doctorate in Business Administration at SMC University and brings to the Student Council years of experience in academia in a number of roles. When a student, she served on student councils as President of the Business Society and Graduation Organizing Committee. She has also held positions in post-secondary institutions including administrative roles where she was responsible for business program development, technology infrastructure implementation, and academic scheduling. In her current role she is a full-time faculty member at the Bissett School of Business in Alberta, where she teaches Human Resources and course in Management.
Lori also served 15 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. She brings a wealth of knowledge in the area of leadership, human resources, curriculum design, and board governance. In addition to teaching full-time, Lori consults in the areas of business process mapping, change management, labour relations, motivation, teamwork, governance, and leadership.
Let’s welcome Lori and wish her much success in her new role.
Like all endeavors in life, you get out of it what you put in and so we at the SMC Student Council challenge each one of you to put the very most of yourself into your studies, both academically and personally, so that your experience at SMC and the personal stamp that you leave on the institution will be long-lasting. An institution of learning is nothing in itself without the people who make up the culture and the environment that support it. By becoming a member of the SMC Student Council, you will automatically gain the ability to support the larger SMC Community with your ideas, knowledge and energy. We all have the ability to shape the SMC experience for the better.
