Residency Experience: Insight from a Student Perspective

So you have been taking a few online classes and you are busy conducting research to write all the papers that have been assigned to you by our esteemed professors at SMC University???  At times you may feel you are all alone and you need a lot of motivation to drive you to complete that next paper or assignment.  As a student that has had challenges with this myself, I decided to enroll in the SMC  Toronto residency this last fall.   This experience was truly beneficial to me as a student of SMC University. I was able to meet other students from diverse backgrounds and countries.

Most residencies involve a pre-residency assignment, residency discussion and a post residency assignment  and the academic rigor and expectations are no less than what should be expected at the Doctorate level.   For example, a discussion that came up in our residency was a topic area and terminology I never came across before and that was: “Corporate Siberia”.  This is not an easy term to find by searching on the internet but one of the students, David Hilton who consults many SME’s on their business operations, brought this up.  I turned this discussion into a Post-residency paper and asked the question “Does Corporate Siberia Exist ?”  I would never have been exposed to this practicalityand relevance at the Doctorate level.  The  fellowship with other students and the professionalism of SMC Staff was second to none.

Here is a link to upcoming residencies. I encourage you to attend if you have the chance.
